Season three focused on the Others. Major plot points included:
[编辑] Nikki and Paulo's status
Kiele Sanchez and Rodrigo Santoro, who were introduced in Season 3 as Nikki and Paulo, were considered guest stars by ABC (via press releases from ABC Medianet), and the producers themselves said they weren't "full regulars." The two were not included in a cast photo for the season. They did not participate in the 2007 ABC winter press tour due to their not being contract actors, per the producers (though based on filming, this could have been to cover up the fact that they had already left the show). The were also noticeably absent from the season 3 DVD cover and 2008 calendar (though an initial cover featured them, but excluded Mr. Eko). Ironically, the main credits of the season 3 episodes listed Kiele and Rodrigo as contract actors. This is recognizable by their being listed in the credits of every episode up until their last, including those in which they did not appear. This was different from the way Emilie de Ravin (Claire) and Malcolm David Kelley (Walt) were listed in the first part of season one and season two, respectively, as important recurring characters. Like regulars, they had individual promotional photos released and were featured on the season poster (the second version), and both appeared at the Sunset on the Beach premiere event for Season 3, which introduces the main cast members of each season. Their status has never been resolved, though it has come to be at most LOST websites, they are considered regulars who just suffered from lack of airtime due to the crowded Season 3 cast.

After the events at the Pala Ferry, Season 3 picks up with Jack, Kate and Sawyer being held prisoner by The Others on another Island. The Others as a group are revealed to be less omnipotent as first thought, with Ben (Henry Gale) requiring spinal surgery lest he die from a tumor. The Others, meanwhile, manage to steal Desmond's sailboat from Sun, Jin, and Sayid, but not before Sun manages to kill one of them. After some manipulation and deceptions, Jack holds Ben's life ransom, allowing Kate and Sawyer to escape, while Jack accompanies the Others back to their main home after saving Ben's life.
At the beach, the results of the fail safe seem to have a strange impact on Desmond, who starts to see "flashes" of events before they happen (in particular, predicting Charlie's death). As the Season progresses, Kate leads a team to rescue Jack, leading us to discover more information about the Others, and how some of them ended up on the Island. The mission to save Jack is successful, but at the same time Locke destroys a submarine and joins Ben in the hope of learning more about the mysteries of the Island. Jack also brings the Other Juliet back to the beach, after apparently being ostracized from her group. However, she is secretly spying on the group under Ben's orders, to gain information on who amongst the camp might be pregnant (to further research as to why pregnant women die before their third trimester on the Island). Furthermore, a woman named Naomi parachutes onto the Island after her helicopter crashes, after apparently being part of a search and rescue operation to find Desmond for her employer, Penelope Widmore. She explains to everyone's surprise that the full wreckage of Oceanic Flight 815 was discovered at the bottom of the ocean off the coast of Bali, and that chillingly the passengers' dead bodies were all accounted for there.
Events come to a head as Jack plans to lay a trap at the beach for the Others coming to kidnap the pregnant women. They leave dynamite and a small group of survivors to detonate it, and manage to take out ten of the Others' best fighters. Meanwhile, Charlie and Desmond manage to deactivate DHARMA equipment underwater preventing communication off the Island, allowing Jack to lead a team to the radio tower to also deactivate Rousseau's distress signal, which in turn would allow Naomi to phone for rescue using the satellite phone she had with her. However, Charlie communicates with Penelope Widmore in the underwater station, who informs him that she has no knowledge of a boat, or anyone called Naomi. Ben implores Jack to not phone that ship, adding that they are the "bad guys". In the final moments, Jack manages to reach someone named Minkowski, who he assumes is on Naomi's ship, and who put a trace on their location and tell the survivors to sit tight, rescue is on its way.
In a flashforward in the 2 hour season finale Through The Looking Glass set in April 2007, it is revealed that at least Jack and Kate escaped the island. However, Jack clearly regrets contacting the rescue ship as his life is spinning out of control and desperately wants to return to the island. He tells Kate that they made a mistake leaving, but Kate believes they did the right thing. Jack shouts "We have to go back!" with tears in his eyes as she drives away from LAX, leaving him alone.
